Day 7 Olympic Fencing: Men's Foil Team
The US men's foil team started with Egypt in the team relay and won with a final score of 45-37. In the semifinal they lost to Russia 41-45. Miles Chamley Watson had great momentum in the second to last bout and gave the Americans a chance. He took over at 31-35 and managed to score 9 touches while received only 4. Unfortunately Alex Massialas could not keep the momentum going and the US needed for focus on the Bronze medal bout.
In the Bronze medal match USA beat Italy 45-31. All 4 fencers fenced very strong all through the match and constantly were gaining lead. Rece Imboden also made his Olympic debut in the Bronze medal match and added to the score.
In the final Russia beat France in a great battle. The French team managed to gain 6 point lead in the first 2 rounds and maintained it until the second to last bout where they gave away the lead and Cheremisinov secured the gold for Russia with a 45-41 end score.
